My Easter Gift to you - Daisy Days

It's Good Friday and for lots of us it's not only a holiday but a special religious period too. Easter has many meanings for us but what ever the meaning for you personally it is a time we associate with holidays and a special few days. Here in the UK we normally think of Easter and Spring, but this year as Easter is the earliest it has been for 95 years, there is not an awful lot of evidence of Spring at the moment. Today we have had hail and a few snow flakes!! Here in the south of England snow is rare, even in the depth of Winter!! So it is a very different Easter holiday than the norm...but as I said it hasn't been this early for 95 years and March is not a warm month for us at all.

With the Easter thought in mind I have "painted" you some papers with a promise of the Spring to come. It's Daisy Days with the feel of soft sunlight and beautiful daisies...they are such a simple flower but so stunning in their simplicity. The preview does not do it justice but I was quite happy with how it looked after I had finished. I really enjoyed painting the flowers and will have a go at some more spring blossoms soon. I hope you like it.
You can download Daisy Days here

Lots of people have asked me recently about saving jpg images of their layouts for the internet to upload to galleries or a blog. They are unsure of how to save them at the correct size so that they show up well but at the same time the file size is not too large. Most galleries have a file size limit and this has caused some people problems. Many of you I know will already know how to do this but for those of you who are just starting out or who are daffled by it the following basics may help, hope so!
OK, so you have your layout finished and have saved it normally to your hard drive or CD but now you want a copy to upload to a gallery. First make sure that you have SAVED it as a layered file psd first before you start this.
1. Now merge the layers so you just have one layer.
2. You dont need the image to be 300dpi for the internet, 72dpi is the norm and it shows on the internet well. Assuming your layout is 12x12, go to Image>Image Size and change the settings from 300dpi to 72dpi. Then change the width to 600 pixels and the height to 600 pixels, click OK. (the way you do this will vary depending on what sofware you use, but those are the sizes you want to change to).
3. Now you want to save the image for the Web. Again this will vary according to your software on CS2 you go File>Save for Web. You will then have a choice of 2 or 4 file sizes you can save it as. In general some galleries won't let you upload images more than 100kb, so it is always best to aim for that or below that for the image size. Each of the options you are offered will tell you the file size below it.
4. When you have picked the size you want to save as, click Save and you will be able to save it on your hard disc to a suitable location. Remember when picking a name to save as pick a different name so that you don't overwrite any other files.
5. So now you have a copy of your layout saved at 72dpi, size 600x600 pixels and file size below 100kb, ideal for the web!!
I know this is just a basic guide but I hope it helps!

Blog Freebie, Commercial Use OK and a Quickie Guessing Challenge.

Well the trip was a great success, a great time was had by all, despite it only being a long weekend. It would have been good to have had more time but work didn't permit that this visit. Bruge was still lovely in the rain and France as always had it's own charms...great food and wine!! We clocked up just under a thousand miles by the time we had reached home again as lots of travel but it goes quickly on the motorways, the miles just fly by..mind you early mornings make for long days!! My camera nearly went on strike as I was taking pictures in the rain and then putting the lens cover on resulting in an unusable lens when I took it off...silly me!!
Download the Patches here

When I got back there were so many emails to plough through and the chat on Tuesday plus day stuff that I did not post yesterday as promised...sorry about that. So I have done the usual Wednesday Freebie plus instead a challenge with a difference. Because we are so far through the week I thought it would be better to give you a quickie puzzle this time and back to the normal Monday Challenge next week. So...this weeks challenge is just a question and answer one. Send your answers to me june.schutrups@btinternet.com and you will receive a little frame freebie!
It's an Enamelled Frame, great for vintage layouts or Spring, flowers winding around the edge.

So, the questions you need to answer are:

1. How many free items do I offer in my store, Cens Stuff at Scrappin Digi Kreations?

2. What's the name of my element and paper set with the little Ballerina (answer in the store)?

3. Name two other designers at Scrappin Digi Kreations.

That's it..simple!! Send the answers to me before Monday 24March and I'll send you the download link for the frame.

Template Freebie, Monday Challenge and New Stuff

It's Monday again and the weather here is awful!! Last night was a storm with lots of rain and high winds...made for a noisy night! Today it's still going and me, being such an intelligent little soul, took out the recycling paper to the bin. Bad idea... as you have to put it in loose, not in a bag. Well, that old wind had some fun....my garden looked like the local garbage tip!! I just wish I could have taken a picture of myself...running back and forth like something out of a bad comedy film, lol!! Got most of it...after a while...and the rest is laughing at me!! I see it out the window but every time I think I'll have an other go at catching it it takes off!! Grrr! Never mind I'll get the rest tomorrow. At least it seems to be staying in my garden (for the moment!) and not visiting my neighbours...a sure way to become popular!! Not!! Lol!

I have a freebie template for all of you and this Mondays challenge is to make a layout using it. All who take part in the challenge will get a posting bonus of the Ziggy Page Kit. So join in and play along and get an other freebie!! I used the template this morning to do a layout of my two nieces using last weeks Monday Challenge Posting Bonus.

Overlays freebie and Guess what!

Hi All!! I am doing a happy dance tonight I have just been reading an article on Scraps of Mind by ME!!! Wow, I have been back and read it twice.....I like it...even though I did write it! I know I may be just a wee tiny weeny bit prejudiced!! But have a look and decide for yourself its called "What Happened to the Sad and the Bad?" it talks about ideas on how to scrap those not so great moments that are still part of our lives and thus have a place in our scrapbooks. I'd love to hear what you think of it.....please..be kind!lol! I am a great fan of Scraps of Mind and so I am honoured that Karen has published it. Thank you Karen!!
I have been spending some time working on overlays, not with them as such but making some for my shop. I have done some texture ones and I'm working on the patterned ones now. They should be in the shop at Scrappin Digi Kreations at the end of the week. They will be for personal and commercial use. I loved on of them sooo much, I played for ages with it and made a paper that looks just like it has a ray of sunshine passing over it. Dull shade and then this ray of sunshine..just beautiful! What do you think? Have a look am I cracking up or is this lovely?

Sunshine across the shadow. I love this paper!!

I was so into overlays that I decided that tonight's freebie had to have some too!! Just for you all to enjoy playing and layering as much as I have. So have a go, what ever your program, layer and change the blending modes, opacity, fill and try adding colour to them. Just fill the first layer with colour and then start the overlay layers. Enjoy and experiment, its the most unlikely combinations that come up with goodies I find. You can have loads of them layered or just one or two, its up to you. Have fun!! I'd love to see what you come up! The files are in png format and there are three in the download. This is one of the pattern overlay using different blending modes, hate same colour just changing the blending mode each time.

You can download the three play overlays in tonights freebie here

Now on to tonight layouts. I have some little gems tonight to share with you. First are this weeks Monday Challenge layouts, its amazing how many ideas you came up with for that torn cardboard!!! Tracy came up with a cute layout she stapled the corners and used the arrow in . I love the photo...look at those horns!!! That girl is being brave again...first crocs and now bulls!! She has made a fantastic job of the frame and I love those stitches!! Wonderful layout!!

Dorys's layout uses some interesting photographic effects on one of the pictures and her journaling reads "No matters what kind of arts we use, your much more beautiful when your at your natural" I think that is very true for lots of things but certainly for her daughter, she looks lovely just as she is!! Gorgeous layout Dorys!!

This one uses the corners and the frame and Su has used a tiled effect for her background, clever idea! I like the missing tiles...works well to let the paper show through. Great challenge piece!!

Freebie, Monday Challenge and Fun with Scrapbook Max!

Its Monday again...how fast does the weekend go!! Today has been fun..I started the day with a quick PC hop before work and I was in such a hurry that I banged down in the chair and...yep, on the floor! Something just gave..its not that I'm a heavy weight, just a banger down and the chair said Enough is Enough!! Lol! So I pinched my sons chair!! I will get a new one but until then possession is nine tenths of the law!

I have a freebie, unusual for a Monday I know, its some torn cardboard elements for personal and commercial use, no credit required. So be my guest if you like them. Just a little thing but quite useful.
You can download the Torn Cardboard Elements here

Remember I told you I was trying out Scrapbook Maxby? Well, I am sooo impressed...you said I would be. It was so quick and easy to get started, even I managed it without a problem, so it must be straight forward! I decided that I would use some of the templates that came with the package and of I went. It was that simple, I loaded it on my PC and of I went. It comes with a large choice of templates and elements which I could move and personalised as I wanted. A big bonus was how easy it was to crop and place my photographs, it was simply, that's partly why I was so fast..normally I take an age to crop it just how I want.
I found the templates come in themed albums but I could still mix them. Even better I still had the benefit of layers so I could promote elements to the front or back to fit my layout. When I finished it was easy to save the pages. It gave me a variety of formats I could use which made it even more useful. I saved some for emailing, and the rest to a folder. I could even have saved for video...video was just a bit too advanced for me, so I didn't try that one yet, lol! It really was a scrappers delight, fast easy albums, lots of built in goodies with it and the best thing yet..I could even import my own stuff into it and use it!! What more could a girl ask...well, gold, silver, a lottery win...no, seriously it was ideal for fast multiple pages and fun to use. So my next venture will be to try the import options and see how easy they are. I'll let you know how I do.
But it did have some draw backs, I can't blend or fade but I have my CS2 for that. The beauty of this is it's versatile and produces fast layouts and albums, so it gets a place on my PC and I will enjoy being able to get rid of my backlog of pictures into albums at last.

OK, I know...I have gone on long enough for one night!!! But I got quite excited about this. I know that initially a lot of experienced scrappers may think I'm strange using it but believe me it is so worth doing. I'll still be a CS2 girl but this works for me too! If you want to try it out you can get a free 28 day trial...I love trials of things, they are just irresistible, especially if they are free!!! So go have a look and while you there browse the online community as well. I spent an hour there last night seeing if I could pick up some tips...and I did loads. So, take a look for yourself.
Wednesday I will post some of my album pages for you to see.
I'm going, yes I promise...I will shut up now!! Take care and have a great evening!!
