Update Time and Some Freebies

I thought I had better post or everyone will think I had disappeared off the face of the earth!!! I won't go into all the medical yucky bits...promise!!

Life has been all hospitals and doctors, discussions of all sorts of bodily functions and way to many dramas..plus I have been bullying people into "granny sitting" for a few hours to allow me to get my final Christmas bits done. I have to admit that even though I have been really busy I miss not working or blogging as usual, or perhaps it's the lack of personal space and mental stimulation that I find so limiting..who knows. But for the moment all is quiet on the invalid front...ssssh don't say it too loud...or someone may hear and things will kick off, lol!!!

My mum is not the perfect patient, but which of us is? My daughter in law is on hold awaiting more test 28 December so my job is to try to make Christmas a good one, despite the health issues. Christmas day will be quiet with only 6 of us but on Boxing Day the whole family is coming to visit and cheer mum on....all 15 of us!!! So lots of cooking and planning for that day. The planning is done and the cooking will come next but Christmas is family and so I am very glad they are coming.

Lots of us will find some difficult moments during the holidays..perhaps it's family members who don't get on, old quarrels or we feel just plain fatigue from so much work to get it all done. I often wonder why we don't keep Christmas simple and relaxed, or even why sometimes we ask people who dislike each other for the rest of the year. But it seems at this time of year we try to share the festive spirit in the hope that the goodwill will extend to all......not everyone holds the same view and it seems that this period is one of the most popular for family rows!!! Hopefully we will escape those!

Tomorrow, 22 December Miss Lilly is ONE!!! How the year has flown!! She is walking and started talking now and she is just gorgeous..mind you I would say that. So watch out for loads of her pictures after Christmas. That girl is a star!!!

Thank you to all of you lovely people who have taken the time to leave me good wishes and comment....you are my rocks!! Your comments are wonderful and they really lighten my heart..so a HUGE thank you for spreading a little cheer, it is much appreciated.

Before I go a reminder that all my current designs retire 25 December and will vanish from the shop at Scrappin Digi Kreations. So if you want any of them drop by the shop and collect them at 50% off...before they are gone for good. Next year when everything has settled down I will start again with my designs with lots of new goodies!!

Whilst your there collect this months wonderful Collab Kit from all the designers there, you'll find it in the "on the House " section.

Here's my part, don't forget to snag it here!!

Christmas Around the World!!!

It's the Christmas Around the Word blog train!!! I couldn't miss taking part in this this wonderful event.

But first an update..my mum had her operation yesterday and even though she took a bit longer than we thought in recovery, she eventually made it out of there and back into her bed in the ward by 7.00pm. Tomorrow I will visit, she will be sleepy still from the continued medication but thankfully the operation part is done.

Now here's my part of Christmas Around the World. I have to admit that I found this colour scheme challenging for a while!!!

Sorry this post is so short...but I am soooo tired and I need to post it before I go to bed. I have also had an extra invalid staying since Saturday, my daughter in law, Susie, so it was two trips to the hospital for me today one with Susie and one with mum..... which meant a very early start to my day. So my bed is calling my name really loudly!!! My eyes are just about open but not for long!!

See you all soon with more news and updates!!! Take care and enjoy the blog train!!

When did it all start?

Christmas will soon be here , the decorations are coming out and the presents will soon start flowing...but  in all the chaos of the preparations have you ever thought about where our Christmas traditions came from and when they started?

OK, so we know that Christmas started as a celebration of Jesus's birth... but why 25 December? Before the 4th century the celebrations took place at different times around the year, depending where you lived, anywhere from January to September. Then the Pope decided on the 25 December as the date that should be celebrated.

I think this was quite a shrewd choice!! Midwinter had always been a time for pagan merry making  and the winter solstice (the shortest day of the year) falls on 21st December. As the scriptures don't give a date as such for the nativity, the 25 December would work well. It meant that when people were making merry for the solstice it blurred the line between religious and established pagan festivities...and any merry making could be put down to the birth of Christ and not a pagan ritual!!

But lots of pagan traditions lived on and still do, mixed in with our religious celebrations. Like the Yule Log, is thought to come from the midwinter ritual of building enormous bonfires to help boost the faded winter sun..... and what about decorating with holly and ivy. That has it's roots in pagan  rituals too. There are so many that still hang on today in some form.

But Christmas as we know it was the invention of those good old Victorians!! The now popular Christmas tree was brought to Britain from Germany then , turkeys as the main meat on Christmas Day was introduced, Christmas cards, Boxing Day and loads more are their legacy to us....before then we didn't do it that way.

So it wasn't until the 1800's that the bulk of Christmas celebrations and trimmings, as we know them, was born. But there is load more on the subject..... enough for today..more about Christmas and it's traditions next post!!!

Now scrapping!!

Today's freebie is a little doll with a touch of vintage. You can add her to your scrap pages with the digital PNG files or I have included a PDF file that you can print for hybrid or crafting. I hope you can find a use for them.

France Was Great..Fast But Good!

I survived the travel and the weather at the weekend, lots of shopping most of it for  Christmas presents...or supplies to help us through the festive season!!

I felt like one of the smugglers that used to operate in the 1700's on the south coast here. The normal village population were often keen purchasers of the goods that got smuggled in, like brandy, tea for lots of people, tobacco, lace etc. All these things carried high duty...as a lot still do now!! But honest I was not smuggling..it was all legal!!!

Shopping with my husband is like going on a commando raid.....plan, travel....grab!!! Oh and pay!! But it's not for the faint hearted, he really organises a girl. "We don't have time" is his catch phrase when he wants to keep me on the straight and narrow. That man is a devil with a trolley!!! But it's just as well or I think I may be there still, browsing around and buying stuff I don't really need....or that's what he tells me!!!

The journey through the channel tunnel was good, even though they still have a restricted service after their large fire. They did a good job and got us there in 30 minutes, not bad for under the channel.......it's wide!!!

We arrived in France safely and even had time for a quick trip into Belgium. So you can see that by the time we got home it was "all fall down"...we were just a little tired! But it was worth it. Some more things ticked off my list. I only have a week and a day before mum goes into hospital and I need to be organised by then.

Now for today's gift for you, it's a vintage frame and I had such fun making it. I'm not an expert with brushes but I stuck with it and I'm quite pleased with the result...OK, so there is room for improvement...but I like it. I hope you do too.
