Spider Alert!!

Last night I was well and truly traumatised!! There were spiders everywhere I turned. Okay, I'm exaggerating just a little, but there were several..all in one day!! I'm not a coward...honest, I'm not...except when spiders are around. I don't know what it is about them but they make my skin crawl.

spider

I found two in the hall during the morning and I thought that was bad, but at bedtime...it got worse..much worse!! My DH went to bed earlier than I did, I was finishing some work on my PC and needed to get it completed last night.

Eventually with my work completed, I climbed into bed and snuggled down feeling nicely relaxed. I was looking forward to reading the next section of my book before I went to sleep. An hour quickly passed as I lost myself in the story and I felt like it was time for lights out. So, down went the book and the pillows got a good shuffle to get me comfy.

As I lay back to check they were right...I saw it!! Up there poised above my head, staring straight at me and smiling (I swear it was)... .was a spider. Quite a big spider!!!

God, it could drop on me at any second. Should I move or should I jump out of bed? Would it drop on me if I jumped? Believe me it was like 20 questions zooming through my head.I thought of nudging my DH but then thought that may not be such a great idea. There was nothing else for it...I would have to deal with it myself!!

This needed careful manoeuvring, I didn't want that nasty hairy spider on me!!! Aaah, just the thought made me come out in goose bumps!! I crept out of bed..keeping low...well I sort of slithered out hugging the mattress and onto the floor. Whew, at least I wasn't in it's drop path any more...now down to action!!

I grabbed one of the cushions from the bed (there are loads..way too many) and climbed back on to the bottom of the bed. Now all I had to do was knock it off the ceiling with the cushion and over towards the window. Steady girl, don't panic!!! I wobbled on the mattress, it's a memory foam one, wonderful to sleep on but not so great for standing on. I pulled the cushion back like I was about to do a golf swing on the ceiling and whoosh...impact!! Spider gone from the ceiling...magic! I checked that wasn't near the bed and then climbed back in, making sure I left the cushion I had used far, far away form the bed.

Needless to say I needed to read some more as I was not feeling quite so relaxed now. But, if I just read a few more pages, then sleep.

All was well...at least it was until an other spider crawled over the pillow next to me and yes...it was doing that staring again!!!! In fact this one was waving Hi.

Oh, ah...no...scream...HELP!! HELP!!HELP..it's going to get me!!!

So okay, that's what husbands are for isn't it? I had tried with the other one but this one was a sneaky guy and he took me unawares..and he was so close. I mean screaming was a natural reaction...right? Now, I have to tell you, my DH is wonderful...long suffering, but wonderful. That is...except when he's woken up in the middle of the night by a screaming lunatic who is totally incoherent, but with very powerful lungs.

Moving slowly....admittedly with an angry glare, at me not the spider.... he removed the offending monster. Muttering a few choice words, which I won't repeat... he put a pillow over his head and went back sleep. Me? I was awake for sometime waiting to see if any more "visitors" with eight legs were going to drop in or creep out on me. But finally.....sleep came and peace returned.

Now I've shared my horror story, I'll behave and get down to scrap talk!!

Have  a look at the elements that I made to go with the Lilly's Quilt Paper Pack. These too were inspired by the quilt. I hope that someone out there can put them to good use.

You can download the Lilly's Quilt Elements here

I'm busy trying out some recipes in a terrific new book that I've got. It's all cake, muffins, biscuits, cakes and puddings recipes..and they are gorgeous. In my next post I'll let you know how I got on and share the results with you...well, not really share as I'm the one that gets to eat them...you only get to see them, lol!!

Take care and have a great evening!!

LOL!!! You are so funny! I can relate though. I hate spiders, too and make my husband kill them since I don't want to even be in the same room with them.
Anyway, thanks for the lovely kit!

OMGosh I can just picture everything with the way you described your horrible spider incident!! Your story-telling is awesome :))

Yikes, I can so relate! I hate spiders! I have a swatter in every room in case I see one and I have to kill the nasty thing by myself. No way would I have even stayed in the bedroom like you did! I would have been awake all night worrying! I do have a dog and cat that are pretty good about trying to get bugs, but they can't crawl up the wall! LOL! Thanks so much for the wonderful elements! :)

You were quite brave to deal with even one spider on your own!! I feel the same as you about spiders and I woke up my DH more than once with screams to get rid of one of those creepy creatures and got the same glares as you describe. You are such a great writer, I could see it as if I was there with you!! I hope Lilly is still recovering nicely! I love the kit inspired by her quilt!! Thank you so much!!!

Ha ha! You are a nutter! My poor husband is scared of spiders and I have to catch them and put them out of the window, as I won't kill them. Me .... I'm frightened of bridges!! But that is a long story for another time x

Okay, I know it wasn't funny to you, but I laughed until it hurt. Your story telling is superb! I don't like spiders and have been known to tear a house upside down chasing them. Thankfully, I am not scared of them. Now discuss bees and I'm screaming for my DH or anyone else in hearing range. Love the kit. Thanks for sharing your talents. Scrapbooking and story telling!

That's like HILARIOUS because I'm totally like that, I will wake my husband up without a second thought and if he misses it he's not going to bed til he finds and kills it. And then I'm off to another room to sleep. Thanks I needed a good laugh before bed.
Thanks for sharing.

Spider's are not among one of my phobias but I must admit that I too would scream if one was in bed staring at me.

My SIL is 6'4, a sergeant in the Guard, was in Dessert Storm and then Iraq too.

But, let me tell you if he sees even a tiny little spider he completely freaks. Every time they are here to visit if there is a spider to be killed it is me who has to rescue him.

You probably disturbed some of them June with your remodeling and the season is changing so they are all looking for a nice cozy place to winter!

Oh my but in your bed and to find so many in one day would have me absolutely beside myself too!

Maybe you got all of them and all will be okay now!! I hope so anyway!!:-)

hahaha, DH is the same way. I am always removing them from his view. I love them and keep a couple in my bathroom cause there is a window in there. They even come down and sleep on my desk. They know they are safe with me. Spiders come in when its going to rain and when it's getting chilly outside. Most spiders are female not male and normally the safe kind will not harm you. But if you whack them don't be surprised if they bite you while you sleep.
I usually just grab a couple of Kleenex and gentle put it over the spider then gentle remove it, enclosing it in the Kleenex, then toss it outside. They are great bug catchers for any garden. She was probably just looking for a warm place to relax and probably would have moved on in the morning.
Thank you for sharing Lily's quilt kit. It's as beautiful as Lily.

Haha I'm like that with moths, if I see one I am running and dodging for cover, and if they hit me...oh GOD. You don't wanna see that! SO terrified I can't even get close enough to kill them with a flyswatter. Ech. yuk. Thanks for the freebie, and beware, there is a picture of the most disgusting spider eating a grasshopper on my blog!!

Hi June!

actually, I call September 'spider month', because the creepy crawlies come out and invade our home at this time each year. I don't know why.

Then, come October, they all disappear...

Kessa said...

LoL - it's a wonder you were able to get to sleep at all - I don't think I would have been able to.

Thanks so much for today's elements June. Hugs to you.

LOL I enjoyed the way that you written about your run-in with the spiders. I too hate spiders June and would probably have done the same, and my DH would have reacted the same. :) Thanks for the elements, seems that I need to go back a post though as I've missed one of your post, how did I do that I wonder? :)

I can totally relate. The other day I seemed to run into spiders all day too :) Your story was so vivid...I could totally envision you slithering off the bed underneath the spider. You're a great storyteller :)

You poor thing! We had a major flood in our town once and the worst thing about that is that the spiders were suddenly everywhere. It was awful!!!
Thanks for the quilt elements, they're great! :o)

OMG June I thought I was going to fall off my chair. I read your spider story and had to laugh and mind you not that it's funny your afraid of spiders but the way you told the story. See in Hawaii we don't have any poison type spiders so when I see them, they don't bother me. But, when I lived in Oregon that was another story. Spiders, ah they don't get to me like centipedes do. Anyway, thanks for the cool elements. Hugs -- xoxo! (terri - hawaii)

no kidding with the spider thing - cold weather is setting in here and all the spiders are scrambling to get inside! My horror story - two years ago in the fall I went in the basement to do a load a wash. When I came back up, there was a big-honking wolf spider on the top of my foot. I nearly broke my toes as I flipped my foot upside-down and smashed it in the floor! I now wear slippers when I go in the basement - still!

Someone told me there are spiders always in our presence and I guess this proves it however I must say I think you need an exterminator as there are more then usual in your home and when this happens you have to get rid of the nests. My daughter had this happen at her home they were the Wolf spiders and sometimes they can make you sick if they bite. My friend was bitten by a recluse spider and had to be hospitalized so don't take them lightly.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I had a spider on my computer desk last night! Change in weather, I guess. I hate to kill spiders, I just scare them away! Boo!

LOL!! Your story is too funny and I COMPLETELY understand. When we lived in a mobile home I was drying my hair after an early morning shower before work. I was bent over, completely upside down, when a mouse ran across my bare feet. I screamed at the top of my lungs, scaring my husband completely out of bed in a flash. It was involuntary, no way to stop it. The scream just happens. However, that wasn't as scary as my spider story. After moving into the first house we bought, I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. I walked in with my bare feet and turned on the light. When my eyes finally adjusted I saw, to my extreme horror, that less than a foot from my toes was a large brown spider with a distinct black fiddle shape on its back - the poisonous kind. I called the exterminator the next day and now I ALWAYS wear house shoes.

Thank you so much for the wonderful elements. I can't wait to use them.

Ewww Spiders!!! I don't care for the things much myself! I've been playing catch up again ;o). You've had quite the eventful time since I visited last! I hope Miss Lilly recovers well, it must have been very scary for her as well as her mum and dad. I saw the pictures from your "new" room and so far it looks wonderful!
I also have to say that you saturday post was very inspiring for me, we've got a bit of tragedy in our family right now, and your post about hitting back harder helped me look at things in a different perspective. Thank you for being the wonderful person you are!!

Thank you also for wonderful kit and the folded papers! Have a wonderful day, and hope Miss Lily feels better soon!

Reading your story about your spider adventures really had me in a fit! That was a funny read. Nevertheless, I can relate, I am not extremely fond of these creatures either. They always seem to have way too many legs ...
Thank you for you comment on my blog!
And I wish you nights without any insect visitors for the rest of your life!
Cheers, Angelika

Thanks, today was one of those days that I desperately needed a good belly laugh and your spider story did it. Now on to knowing the day will be good, instead of feeling sorry for myself. Laughs are God's gifts to keep us looking at the rosy side of life. Thanks for the elements too.

TYVM June for the wonderful comment and as you were the early bird today, you got the worm, so to speak, you did get my Frist Commenter link love!

I of course once again over slept and getting a late start. I think I actually am living on European and Asian time and not Central/American-Mexico time!

I hope you are having a glorious day!

Thanks for sharing your vivid spider escapade. Your story telling is always superb. In fact, I plan to share this link with my DIL (if she hasn't already found it) as I'm sure she would love it.
And, of course, thank you so much for the wonderful elements for Lilly's Quilt. Hope Miss Lilly's foot is continuing to heal rapidly.

spiders just creep me out! i have never seen so many daddy long legs as i have seen here in california. the last couple of years in south dak. i swear the spiders were mutating! not for fakes! there were some extremely strange ones crawling around. my kids saw one in the bathroom and i swear you could have put a leash on it and walked it like a pet, that's how big it was! thank goodness i didn't see it. all i saw was the remnants that were left on the floor...eeeeewwwww!

your elements are amazing as usual! if i decide to use them i will post my result and link it for you.

have a wonderful day my friend...xoxoxo

Totally darling :-)

Yeah my DS told me there was a HUGE spider in his bathroom today. It was tiny! lol I was cracking up. I killed it and flushed it. But then he refused to go potty for quite some time in case the spider came back! lol

Ha ha ha ... I wont even kill a spider with my own shoe, I think it's relatives will catch it's scent on my shoe and come looking for me!! How ridiculous is that??? I nearly emptied a whole can of bug spray on one I found in our raised garden bed, it jumped down and started running straight at me .. I bolted inside, screaming for my husband that the abominable spider was after me .. it looked like a snowball it had so much spray on it!! Thanks so much for your beautiful Lily's quilt kit .. it is fantastic. Hope Lily is al healed now! xxx

Oh my gosh!!! I would have gone and slept on the couch. Nasty Nasty Nasty. I too hate spiders :) Unfortunately so does my son, so when DH is not around I have to be the hero. Not good. Thanks for making my day.

thanks for the elements and the story!! much better than mine. My poor son, the youngest(21)was bit by a spider either in the house or when he was doing lawn work at his grand mothers. We decided by the look of the bite that it was a brown recluse that bit him. He had two spots on his arm that swelled up the size of baseballs. It finally drained and started healing on it's own but I was worried that I would have to drag my son to the doctor...my boys are pretty stubborn.
We cleared all the pets out of the house and sprayed but the following week my son's friend found a huge spider hiding in the corner of one of the rooms. It wasn't a recluse but he quickly became a squashed spider. I think/hope that was the last of the spiders, I haven't seen any in a few days.
